Plainview Farm :: Perennials :: Rheum-Stylophorum :: Scabiosa
Scabiosa | scab-ee-OH-sa | Pincushion Flower
The delicate scabiosa adds an elegant accent to the front of the border. With deadheading,
these plants will bloom for many weeks. A bonus: butterflies and birds love them as much
as gardeners do. It is native to the Mediterranean region and loves hot, dry conditions.
Winter drainage is a critical factor for the long-term health of many perennials and scabiosa
is no exception. Given proper conditions, it will be a valuable member of your border as well.
Not only will they provide long-lasting color in the garden but make a long-lasting cut flower.
Expect all species to spread 18 inches. New for us is a new species discovered in Mongolia by American
plant explorers. It shows us a new color, it’s very hardy and named in honor of its home.
From them, comes the compact ‘Mongolian Mist’.
