Plainview Farm :: Perennials :: Teucrium-Trollius :: Tiarella
Tiarella | tie-a-RELL-a | Foamflower
This once little known genus has turned into a star lately, due to the efforts of plant breeders
who have changed its once simple leaves into highly decorative forms with distinctive splashes
of colors and textures. Some, we think, have been a tad over-hyped, but others have received
well-deserved applause. Despite the attention, this undemanding, adaptable native American
treasure continues to serve as one of the best groundcovers for shade. When it blooms in later
spring, the foamy flowers draw the eye irresistibly. Some are also fragrant. We especially enjoy
them when they are paired with late blooming, pale yellow daffodils.
