Helenium | huh-LEN-ee-um | Helen's Flower
Named by the Greeks to honor the fabulous Helen of Troy, helenium are statuesque plants
that have a most cheerful attitude! While flowering, helenium, also known as sneezeweed,
takes center stage. We recommend that you pinch or cut back stems in June or early July to
control height and promote branching. Give them some space (36 inches) for best performance. Be
sure to bring a few stems inside, as well. These are wonderful cut flowers and they bloom for
many weeks. Recently, after being in a “dormant” period, hybridizers have introduced two new
varieties. ‘Mardi Gras’ is flashy with yellow petals splashed orange and red. A little variety to keep us interested!
